The Penn State Alumni AssociationWhat’s been happening: I earned my PhD in Speech Communication in 1966 with a minor in psychology. I married a Penn State PhD, and we moved to Nebraska, where we served on the Omaha University of Nebraska faculty. As Associate Professor of Speech and Secondary Education, I directed the National Teacher Corps and the Urban Studies Center, and served as President of the Faculty Senate. I moved with our two children to New York and later, Washington, DC to serve as Associate Executive Director of the National Communication Association. In 1973, I joined the National Institute of Education as a Senior Researcher and from 1983-86 directed the American Society for Medical Technology in Houston. I served as a Senior Research Policy Analyst for the US Dept. of Education in DC from 1986-2004 and taught communication studies as an adjunct professor at George Mason University. Currently retired, I serve as President of Beth El House, serving women in transition from homelessness, and am active in civic organizations, the AAUW, ACLU, and numerous professional organizations. I still write and present papers and I travel often. My great joy is being with my two young grandchildren, Caroline and Brandon, who live nearby. |
